Blowout

A tattooing error where ink spreads beyond the intended line into surrounding tissue, creating a blurred or bruised appearance around the tattoo.

In detail

Blowouts occur when a needle penetrates too deeply into the hypodermis, where ink disperses freely. Thin skin areas (inner wrist, feet, fingers) are most susceptible. Minor blowouts may be incorporated into the design; significant ones may require laser treatment or cover-up work.
